Weatherbug Not Working Windows 7

Posted on

Hello. I have a question to ask you. First, nice to meet you!

I have recently installed a well-known software program most people have heard of that in the past was deemed by most IT experts and malware software programs as being at best as a low-risk spyware threat. Its name is WeatherBug. There are a plethora of online articles that specifically declare it to be malware; yet the company that created it, AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc. (formerly Automated Weather Source) that changed its name to Earth Networks, Inc. in 2012 says it is adware (not spyware), but perfectly safe to use. The older version of WeatherBug 6 and yet older versions before that did require a high amount of resources 8 years ago and earlier. I also notice at the time I was receiving routine malware infections with my prior windows operating systems. I used it back with version 6 and older versions with my desktop computer and I did see my computer slow down considerably. There were 2 versions, Free (ad supported) and Plus (paid without ads and more features). I have used both paid and free versions, usually with the free version fine enough for me to use in later years.

Obviously, if you follow the steps above, you can definitely uninstall Weather Bug from your computer. But if you fail to conduct a step correctly, your computer will crash immediately.

Now, with the newer version of WeatherBug (free version, version 10) I recently installed, it seems to run a lot faster and smoother and I love the even the basic features. It is more Windows 10 design-like in terms of graphical interface and I like it. So, like I usually do, I ran my well-known reliable HitMan Pro.Alert malware program and it discovered many WeatherBug files and file data, and even registry keys it found and asked me to delete them after the manual run scan. I do not know what to do? Should I remove the new version WeatherBug 10? Does it represent any potential harm to my computer now that it has been redesigned and re-programmed from the older version 6 years ago? Honestly, I like it and I hate to uninstall it “completely” using specific ordered steps; but if it represents a serious threat to my computer(s) THAT I DO NOT SEE RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND, I will have to remove it!

Please reply with opinions and advice.

Thank you!

Hi,
1. Did you make any changes on the computer prior to the issue?
2. What is the exact error message?
Method 1:
You may perform a clean boot and check if the issue is caused due to third party software.

Note: After trouble shooting put the computer to start as usual by performing step 7 from the above Knowledge Base article.

Method 2:
You may run System File Checker scan to fix the corrupted files.

Just the usual Windows Updates along the way. There's no error message, I double click Weatherbug to start it, the cursor wheel spins, then nothing else happens and it doesn't start. I've tried clean uninstalls, downloading fresh install files and reinstalling, and it won't run.
And everything else is running beautifully, how could it be a system file?
Update: I tried the clean book with only the system stuff, and clicked WB after that and it still wouldn't open.
I also just tried the sfc /scannow as system administrator and that found no problems.
What now?

Not sure what you mean by this. isn't werfault just a module that reports crashes to Microsoft?
Are you suggesting it's the CAUSE of the crash or is it a result of the crash?

Didn't help, BUT I did come across a bunch of crash reports for Weatherbug. It started May 2nd. Does any of this make sense?
You know, come to think of it, May 2nd might be when we switched from DSL to Comcast HSI.

I'm using Win 7 Home Premium on an Asus Essentio quad core with 8Gb RAM.
I've been using Weatherbug for years but it quit working recently, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled, but it still won't start up.
I use Avast! for antivirus and thought maybe that was shutting it down, but checked everything and it isn't. No sign of it being stopped in there, and I even shut down Avast! and tried starting Weatherbug but it still won't start.
So I did a ctrl-alt-del and looked at Task Manager - Processes, in the top of my screen, while double clicking the Weatherbug icon and trying to start it below.
Weatherbug tries to start, and something called Werfault.exe comes on, then both go away.
Any idea why Weatherbug won't run anymore and how to fix this?
