My experience with this lens so far is limited, but it seems to be a great value. I bought this lens because it was cheap and I wanted a lens for my Sony a230 with a farther reach than my kit 18-55mm. The only things I noticed that is less than excellent on this lens is the zoom mechanism is a little stiff, sometimes the AF can be a bit sluggish, and there is no image stabilzation on the lens so low light pictures can be difficult. But the build quality seems to be good, the pictures seem to be good when there is good light, and one of it's best features is how compact it is. This lens is hardly even longer than my 18-55mm, the difference is not even noticeable. And since I already have a camerra bag and I plan on traveling with this lens that is a big plus. I doubt I'll be returning to my kit lens. This is probably my new all-purpose lens.
