Book Nine—aka GO TELL THE BEES THAT I AM GONE—is coming along nicely, and thank you for your kind inquiries! I think it’s gonna be good. You may, however, have noticed that the main books of the OUTLANDER series are Rather Large, Somewhat Complex, and Lavishly Furnished with detail, context and other research-dependent appurtenances. All of which take time. Grades in which One Green Apple is Assigned. No educators have yet completed this 'grades used' section of the Literary Text Complexity Qualitative Measures Rubric for One Green Apple, where they share what grades this text is assigned. Perhaps you can help.

March Calendar of Children's Books

March gets off to a great start as Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2 is celebrated in schools across the United States. Other March events include: Women's History Month, Irish-American Heritage Month, National Craft Month, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and the start of spring, as well as the birthdays of Kate DiCamillo, Chris Raschka, Ezra Jack Keats, Lois Lowry and Bill Martin Jr.

April Calendar of Children's Books

April is National Poetry Month and I have lots of resources for you, as well as children's books for Passover, National Library Week, Earth Day and Children’s Day / Book Day - El dia de los niños / El da de los libros. Celebrate the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen by learning about the author and the birthday of Coretta Scott King by reading about the Coretta Scott King Book Awards and winners.

May Calendar of Children's Books

In May, we celebrate a lot of special events. These include: Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Latino Books Month, National Bike Month, Children’s Book Week, Mother Goose Day, Mother's Day and Memorial Day, among others. Authors and illustrators of children's books with May birthdays include Kadir Nelson and Mary Pope Osborne.

June Calendar of Children's Books

Before my list of the June events, I've provided some summer reading resources for you to help you keep your kids reading during the summer. June events include National Safety Month, World Environment Day, Father's Day and the official start of summer. There are also a lot of June birthdays. Among the authors and illustrators with June birthdays are poet Joyce Sidman, author Cynthia Rylant and authors and illustrators Maurice Sendak and Eric Carle.

July Calendar of Children's Books

I've included more summer reading resources, including book lists for various ages, at the beginning of this month's calendar. In July, celebrate the Fourth of July, as well as National Blueberry Month, with children's books. There are also more than a dozen authors and illustrators of children's books with June birthdays, including E.B. White, Beatrix Potter and J.K. Rowling. Since school starts in mid- or late August for many kids, I've included a number of children's books I recommend to help your kids get ready for the start of school. September Calendar of Children's Books

Events this month include the start of school and Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read. It's also Library Card Sign-up Month, and September 15 is the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month. There's also Patriot Day, National Punctuation Day, and the birthdays of Paul Fleischman, Jack Prelutsky, Jon Scieszka, Roald Dahl, Robert McCloskey and Tomie dePaola, among others.

Festivities

Celebrate National Bullying Prevention Month, as well as the second half of National Hispanic Heritage Month in October. Teen Read Week, Star Wars Reads Day and Halloween are some of the other events this month. Those with October birthdays include children's book authors and illustrators Jeanette Winter, Elisa Kleven, Steven Kellogg and Eric Kimmel.

National Adoption Month, National Alzheimer's Disease Month, National American Indian Heritage Month, Election Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving Day are only some of the special events during the busy month of November.
