Dawn Of War Necron Lord

The upcoming Dark Crusade expansion for 2004's acclaimed real-time strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is going to add a considerable amount of new content, including a new single-player campaign that will let you try and conquer the planet Kronus your own way. On a strategic map of Kronus, you'll decide where to attack with your army, and then you will resolve those battles in intense real-time combat where you can command the menacing units of Warhammer 40,000 yourself. Dark Crusade will also introduce two new factions to the mix, adding the mysterious necrons and the powerful tau empire, boosting the total number of playable factions to seven. But who are these new factions? Read on for a briefing on what to expect when Dark Crusade ships later this year.

Necrons

With a name like necron, you might expect that this faction would be an undead one. That's not quite the case. The necrons are a soulless, mechanical race dedicated to waging war against the living to sacrifice their victims to their gods. Like a plague, the necrons swarmed the worlds of the living ages ago until they were finally defeated. However, the surviving necrons locked themselves away on tomb worlds, such as the planet Kronus that's at the heart of the Dark Crusade campaign, to await the return of the living.

Appropriately, the necrons' central base exists under the surface as a vast network of catacombs. The faction is headquartered in the Thur'abis Plateau, and if that territory ever were to fall, the necrons would be defeated in the single-player campaign. Of course, if the necrons can eliminate all the other factions' strongholds, they would conquer the entire planet.

The necron lord is the main hero unit for the faction, and he leads necron forces in battle. As with all other hero units in Dark Crusade, the necron lord can be outfitted in war gear, special weapons, armor, and equipment that is unlocked throughout the course of the campaign. Such war gear can make the necron lord even more powerful and formidable.

Tau Empire

Long ago, the planet Kronus was a peaceful world cohabited by both humans and the tau, a faction that believes in spreading the greater good throughout the universe. However, the return of the necrons resulted in many of the tau warriors on Kronus being wiped out and the human Imperium attempting to control the entire planet. As a result, the tau went to war, dispatching a task force from their home world, armed with the high-tech weapons and battle suits that the tau are known for.

The tau stronghold is located in the city of Or'es Tash'n, in the territory of the same name. From here, the tau military commander Sash'o Kais plans to liberate the planet by conquering all enemy stronghold territories. If Or'es Tash'n should fall, however, the tau would be forced to flee the planet. The thought of defeat would be utterly shameful to the tau, who refuse to accept failure.

Alright, DOW3 got announced and it looks great, imo.

Though some people seem to be disappointed that DOW3 only seems to have three races. However, Im quite certain that DOW3, like the other two titles, will have four races at release.

First of all, lets make it clear that there has not been an official statement that denies a fourth race - the website ( https://www.dawnofwar.com/ ) only mentions 3 races and the PC gamer article doesnt make a statement that counts out four races. The website flatout says 'More features to be revealed' - RIGHT under the race section.

Second of all, Dawn of War 2 also only revealed three races when it was officially announced - however, in the initial announcement trailer a hint was given to a fourth race which later turned out to be Tyranids. It is a fairly common marketing strategy in RTS games to keep one race under wraps until closer to release.

Im fairly certain this time relic is doing the same again. And it will be Necrons.

Lets look at the evidence:

The biggest hint by far is right at the start of the trailer. The quote that starts the trailer is 'There is a terrible darkness descending upon the galaxy, and we shall not see it ended in our lifetimes.'

Dawn

People familiar with WH40k might recognize this quote. It is said by Inquisitor Bronislaw Czevak and it is directly addressing the Necron threat. The first thing that comes up when you google this quote is the Necron entry in the WH40k wiki ( http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Necrons ), aswell as alot of other Necron related stuff and in reverse one of the first things that comes up when you google 'Necrons' is this quote.

Why would they start of their FIRST announcement trailer with a quote that is directly related to the Necrons if they wouldnt have Necrons in the game?

2. Second of all, whats the last quote in the trailer? Command and conquer red alert 3 natasha series. 'In the face of death, I shall have no remorse'. Sure, this quote can be taken in many ways and Im sure it is supposed to be. However, this is a Necron: http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/d/df/Necron_Warrior.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20110928172008

Do I need to elaborate this point further? I dont think so.

Dawn Of War 2 Necrons

3. My third point: On the Dawn of War 3 website ( https://www.dawnofwar.com/ ), it states the following:

'In Dawn of War III you will have no choice but to face your foes when a catastrophic weapon is found on the mysterious world of Acheron.'

A 'catastrophic weapon'. There are not many things in the WH40K universe that could make the Imperium of Man AND the Eldar collectively shit their pants. Necrons are one of these things. Necrons are the most ancient race in all of WH40k and their technology is far superior to anything any other race has to offer. It stands to reason that the 'catastrophic weapon' found on this planet is of Necron origin, maybe some ancient unrevealed Necron doomsday device.

4. My fourth point is, Relic is marketing this game as their 'biggest RTS so far', both on their website and the PC Gamer article. Sure, marketing can be misleading, but do you honestly think they would launch their 'biggest RTS yet' with 1 less race than both its predecessors? I dont think so.

5. My fifth point: Since Dawn of War 1, the Necrons have changed ALOT. The newer codexes have completely changed the lore and the character of this race around, to the point where they are partially unrecognizable. I wont elaborate this too much, but basically they have been changed from Space Terminators to Space Egyptians. This means that the new Necrons have NEVER appeared in a Dawn of War game, making them the only race not to be featured in a Dawn of War title. The last time this happened was when Dawn of War 2 came out - Dawn of War 1 featured (arguably) all of the main races of WH40k in some form, except for the Tyranids. And what did relic do? They included the Tyranids in Dawn of War 2 and didnt reveal this race till later on in the marketing cycle - just like they are now doing with the new Necrons.

6. And my final point: A few weeks before the announcement of DOW3, Dawn of War 2 got a new update (its first content update in years) that just happened to add the Necron Overlord to its hero line up, its first Necron unit - possibly to bring awareness to the DOW franchise before the DOW3 announcement. It was teased with this spooky image, which alot of people mistook for a DOW3 tease. And who knows, it still might be: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CcekkgRXEAEhJOu.jpg:large

So, there you have it. Im pretty sure Necrons it is.

TL;DR : A fourth race has not been officially denied anywhere; they didnt reveal the fourth race of DOW2 (Tyranids) till later in the marketing cycle either; Trailer starts off with a quote that directly refers to the Necrons and is heavily connected to them; Trailer ends with a quote that could be referring to Necrons; DOW3 Website mentions the races fighting over a 'catastrophic weapon', it is likely that this weapon is of Necron origin; Relic is marketing this as their 'biggest RTS yet' so it makes sense they dont launch with 1 race less than the previous installments; Fifth point is that Necrons have changed ALOT since DOW1 and as such these new Necrons have never been represented in a DOW game, just like with the Tyranids in DOW2; Final point is that a few weeks before the DOW3 announcement, DOW2 got its first content update in years - which just happens to be the Necron Overlord as a hero, DOW2´s first Necron unit.
