MD5 & SHA Checksum Utility is a tool that allows you to generate CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of single or multiple files. You can also verify hashes with the matching file to ensure the file integrity is correct.

If you have installed or updated to version 15.12 of the file compression software 7-Zip on your Windows machine, you’ll see a new entry called CRC SHA in the context menu for files and folders. Let’s see why this entry appears and how you can get rid of it.

If you have no use for the CRC SHA feature, or just prefer to use another dedicated tool to calculate CRC SHA values, you can get rid of this context menu entry. To do so, first open 7-Zip File Manager and head to Tools > Options. Under the 7-Zip tab, uncheck the box next to CRC SHA and click on the Apply button.

You can safely ignore any error dialogs that pop up. Now bring up the context menu to verify that the CRC SHA entry is gone.
